Supported Independent Living (SIL)
Supported Independent Living (SIL) is an NDIS funded package of support where you can live with
other people with a disability or on your own if your supports are unable to be met through mainstream, community, informal or other supports.
The NDIS will assess and consider your individual support needs and goals to approve an appropriate level of funding. These supports are required to nurture your personal growth in a safe and supportive environment with the aim to build your independence at home and connect you with your local community.
Depending on the level of funding approved, support can vary for up to 24hrs per day for someone
who has high support needs that require a significant amount of assistance.
The NDIS does not fund the cost of rent, board, utilities, transport, mobility equipment and other
day-to-day expenses such as food, toileteries and activities. These daily living costs are a contribution by the participant towards their board and lodgings.
